Question: We have a 2009 Astra-J workshop and the customer is complaining of a rattling noise from the front of the vehicle above 80 kph. We have been on a road test with the customer to confirm where the noise is coming from, and it sounds like it’s coming from the LH front wheel area. We have checked the components in the LH front wheel area but cannot find the fault. Is this rattling noise something you are aware of?
Answer: Yes, we are aware of this fault on the Astra-J and it is due to the front wheel arch lining vibrating against the front wheel arch at speeds above 80 kph. Move the front wheel arch lining away from the front wheel arch. Clean the area where the front wheel arch lining contacts the front wheel arch. Fit a foam pad, available from Opel parts department, to inside of the wheel arch
Repeat the procedure for the opposite side. Carry out road test to confirm the fault has been rectified.
